How long are military families stationed at one place?

There is a government defence house next door and a new family moved in a month ago. They have a large dog that barks and growls at everything throughout the day. We don't want to cause any trouble by complaining about their dog though, so hopefully we'll just bear it until they move out. We're in Canberra btw. Does anyone know?
