Conservatives: If FDR's policies were a failure, why did they earn him an unprecedented four terms in office?

I think a lot of people voted for his 3rd and 4th terms in office for the simple reason that we were at war and they felt that they didn't want someone else to see the country through it. They didn't want someone inexperienced to head the government because of the war. Plus he was a popular and well-liked man. Granted conservatives hated him but the Democrats loved him and there were a lot of Democrats.
