Why is there so much more rudeness and lack of civility in America than ever before?

My Dad, who is 61, and I were recently talking about the fact that there's so much more rudeness and incivility than ever before. I've noticed it too. It seems like there's more impoliteness now than there was 20-30 years ago. Sure, there have been a lot of jerks in the past, but it seems like there are a lot more this day and age. Even people like cashiers who normally in the past at least faked being polite are rude half the time. Not to mention crime is much worse than ever before. Anybody have any ideas as to why etiquette is going downhill in America more and more? Thanks for your input!
